Philips issues IMPORTANT safety notification for Connected Blood Glucose Meter

Philips issued an IMPORTANT safety notification for the following Blood Glucose Meters: Philips Connected Blood Glucose Monitoring System and BioTel Care® Connected Blood Glucose Monitoring System.

Please read this important information about your meter’s battery and the USB cables and power adapters that came with your device.

How to use your meter safely:
1. Only use the Philips or BioTel branded charging accessories.
2. Don’t charge in very hot or cold places.
3. Keep the charging port dry and clean.

For more details, read the Instructions for Use that came with your kit. Make sure your meter’s battery is working well. Share this info with anyone who helps you monitor your glucose.

What’s the issue?
Philips found that the batteries in some blood glucose meters might overheat, swell, or leak. This can happen if you use non-Philips or BioTel chargers or store the meter improperly. All Philips and BioTel Care® meters can have this problem.

To identify if your meter might be affected:

1. Look at the serial number on the back of your meter.
2. If it starts with “TG” or “TF”, it might be affected.
3. To find out if your device needs to be replaced, use the Meter Replacement Check tool.

What you should do:
If you have a Philips or BioTel charger and your meter is working normally, you can keep using it. If you experience any of these issues, stop using your meter and contact Philips Customer Service at (888) 666-4530 (US) or (1) (978) 610-4688 (International):

1. The meter looks damaged or cracked.
2. The meter is swollen.
3. The meter is too hot to hold.
4. The meter won’t hold a charge.
5. You don’t have the Philips or BioTel charger.

How to charge your meter safely:

1. Only use the USB cable and power adapter that were included in your kit. They are blue and branded with Philips or BioTel.

Compatible USB cable and power adapter are BLUE and Philips or BioTel branded, as shown here. If you need a replacement charger, please contact Philips Customer Service at (888) 666-4530 (US) or (1) (978) 610-4688 (International), Monday – Friday from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM Eastern Time, excluding major holidays.

2. Keep the meter and cables away from water.
3. Store the meter between 10°C and 40°C (50°F and 104°F).
4. Keep the meter and cables clean and dry.

Make sure to follow these guidelines to prevent battery issues.
